First Thursday is a well-known South African monthly public event on the first Thursday of each month. It is an evening where the streets come alive: art galleries, restaurants, and shops in city centres (namely Cape Town) stay open late – celebrating the culture, art and community of the area.

Today we’re far from our home in Cape Town, South Africa. We’ve come a long way but we’re not here to find a new home. We’re here to do what we’ve always done, leave what’s familiar. Being far from home rings true to every aspect of who we are. When we conceived Burnt we made the decision to leave what we knew before, to deliberately distance ourselves from what every activewear brand was doing at the time, to arrive at a place where fashion meets performance.

The idea of being far from home has never scared us; actually, it’s welcomed us. We entertain the idea in the back of your mind to go further, even when you’ve run further from your home than ever before. In the weight room or on the mats, we move past what’s familiar. Home might be where we’re comfortable but we know progression happens when we’re far from it.

A lot about being far from home is remembering the people you meet along the way. Today, traveling far from home means we get to meet you and although Amsterdam is unfamiliar to us, there are some things about it that we’ve known all along. This is a space where performance meets fashion, everyday.
